Do I have a choice of local phone service providers?

Consumers and businesses often have a choice of providers for their local, intraLATA and long distance services. In addition to traditional phone companies, wireline telephone service also is offered throughout California by cable companies, competitive telephone companies and Internet-based phone companies.  Consumers have many ways to shop for alternatives based on their needs.

Each company has a customer service number for consumers to call, and many have web sites where you may find details about prices and services.  Some companies may offer “Package” or “Bundled” plans containing several services that when combined are priced lower than if you were buying each service individually. The key is to choose a plan that best suits YOUR needs. You can compare some phone company prices on independent Internet web sites.
