What are the California Universal Service Fee Surcharges?

The California Universal Service Fee Surcharges collect funds to offset some of the costs to provide service in rural and hard to serve communities, to pay for relay service for the deaf and hard of hearing and to offset costs to provide discounts to low income customers. All carriers are required to collect those surcharges from their consumers and submit them to the appropriate fund. You can access more information on the California low income telecommunications programs and to find out if you qualify for such programs by clicking here .
